Doom and gloom time (or not)

Every now and again, you just feel a shift in mood. Somehow, the idea of writing a really positive or upbeat piece about zithromax doesn’t quite fit. If an animal gets sick, it diverts calories from its diet to its immune system. If you add antibiotics to the feed, the animal doesn’t get sick, so all the calories go to building the flesh we eat. It’s now estimated that farmers in the U.S. feed about 24.5 million pounds of antibiotics to their animals every year. This cocktail includes zithromax as one of the macrolide antibiotics. That means everyone who eats meat is continuously taking a low level dose of antibiotics with every meal. The problem is that the bacteria which make us sick are also being exposed to these antibiotics both in the animals and in us after we have eaten meat.So, unless we are very lucky, there could be a new strain of bacteria coming along which makes us sick and not even the very best of the antibiotics like zithromax will be an effective cure. So, as REM say, we all feel fine now, but if a pandemic comes, it could be the end of the world. Or we may all just be incredibly lucky and no bacteria mutates into something dangerous. Or perhaps some clever research chemist will develop a new class of antibiotic that wipes out all the new bacteria. Let’s end on a positive note. It’s all going to be OK! OK?

New legislation aimed at the military

In a perfect world, laws would not be necessary. But, when people are not prepared to do the “right” thing, the legislature has to step in to force compliance. If you were to ask which class of people in the US right now should be the most honored and protected, most would answer the soldiers, airmen and sailors who serve the US with pride and distinction.

Now we have two new bills signed into law by President Bush to address some of the outstanding issues. The Military Pain Care Act of 2008 is intended to force the military to implement more effective pain care management for all serving personnel. Everyone who serves their country is entitled to the best of care. Yet there is clear evidence that prescription painkillers like tramadol hcl and the more powerful narcotic analgesics are being abused. Since the Iraq war began, the number of prescriptions for painkillers has risen from 30,000 to 50,000 per month suggesting that military doctors are too casual in prescribing potentially addictive drugs.

There is a real challenge to the US healthcare system to react positively to the wave of injured personnel returning from the current conflicts. This represents a major financial burden not only in the cost of the treatment, but also in lost production estimated at $100 billion every year when veterans are unable to work because of their chronic pain. Capitol Hill no longer thinks it is sufficient for physicians to hand out tramadol hcl and the more powerful narcotic painkillers, and leave it at that. There is a pressing need to formulate a comprehensive approach to reintegrate injured military personnel into society and to help them cope with the pain.

Hair loss is a sensitive issue, particularly for women

Similarly, hormone replacement therapy can cause hair loss. More generally, you can lose hair because of fungal infections of the scalp or thyroid problems, diabetes or lupus.
